Division of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging

Introduction to Division of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging

1. Names, terms of office and important deeds of previous department directors:

The Division of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging was established in 1985 and was planned by Zhang Zun, director of the Department of Radiology at that time. At that time, there were three examination rooms, including five ultrasound scanners, including Octoson (UI, Australia), Rohe 5580 ( Rohe, France), DRF400 (Diasonics, Milpita, CA, USA), UM8 (ATL, Bothell, WA, USA), Sonoline-1 (Siemens, Germany). There are two specialists and four technical staff in this department. Ultrasound examination is listed as an examination item of the Radiology Department. As early as 1976, Dr. Yu Jun, the former director of the Radiology Department, introduced the field of interventional imaging as a bi-stable static scanner (Picker). After 1979, the Rohe5580 began to be used, which was a gray scanner. The first-stage static scanner, accompanied by a linear real-time probe, is one of the earliest real-time ultrasounds in China. Octoson was introduced into the country at the end of 1979, and the test machine was completed in early 1980. It was a computerized composite ultrasonic instrument. In 1981, Dr. Wu Junji, director of the General Diagnosis Department of the Department of Radiology, went to Virginia, the United States, to study ultrasound. After returning to China, he also took charge of the ultrasound examination business. In 1984, specialist Dr. Zhou Yihong went to Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and Jefferson in Philadelphia, the United States. After studying ultrasound diagnosis at the University Hospital, he was appointed to take charge of the ultrasound examination business in September 1985 after returning to China. He became the first director of the Ultrasound Department (Experimental Diagnostics Department); Dr. Zhou Yihong took over as the director of the department in 2013. In 2016, the Ultrasound Department was changed to the Ultrasound and Breast Imaging Department. Dr. Zhou Yihong was re-elected as the director of the department. In January 2016, Dr. Zhou Yihong was transferred to the director of the Labor Safety and Health Office. On February 1, 2016, Associate Professor Qiu Hongren took over. Chief of the Ultrasound and Breast Imaging Department. Important achievements of the Ultrasound Division during his tenure include:
  • The first domestic application of the concept of Doppler examination to abdominal organs (1982).
  • The first in China to introduce color Doppler ultrasound for abdominal examination (1988).
  • Widely introduce and promote the interventional examination procedures guided by ultrasound, making interventional ultrasound an important examination item in our hospital.

2. Outstanding undergraduate medical technology or achievements:

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous interventional procedures: In 1979, our department was the first to use ultrasound guidance for kidney puncture and abdominal tumor biopsy. Subsequently, in 1981, real-time ultrasound guidance was used to perform biological examinations of liver and other abdominal organ tumors and drainage of liver abscesses. In 1985, the first ultrasound-guided percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage was performed. In the same year, jugular vein and subclavian vein punctures were performed using ultrasound guidance.
Doppler ultrasound examination and diagnosis of abdominal organs: In 1982, ATL Mark V was first used for Doppler ultrasound examination and diagnosis of abdominal blood vessels. At the same time, it was also the first institution to conduct research on abdominal color Doppler ultrasound examination and tumor vascularity (1988). Color Doppler examination of breasts also started in the same year, making it the first institution in China to conduct this research.
Expanding the scope of ultrasonic examination of superficial organs: In 1980, breast Octoson ultrasonic examination was first performed in China, and then real-time ultrasonic examination was used to examine breast lesions. In 1984, it cooperated with the Department of Orthopedics of our hospital to conduct ultrasonic examination of the musculoskeletal system. Sound wave research.
The first domestic attempt to apply whole-breast automated ultrasound to breast cancer screening in asymptomatic women (1987, Labsonics). Since 1992, he has been studying the application of high-resolution ultrasound in the musculoskeletal system, established highly accurate data on shoulder joint lesions, and wrist joint lesions, and promoted this technology to the national orthopedics and rehabilitation medicine community. In 1994, he began to study color Doppler ultrasound in glaucoma, and used this technology to diagnose and track carotid artery to cavernous fistulas, and achieved good results. Since 1995, we have begun to use high-resolution ultrasound in the diagnosis of peripheral soft tissue tumors and use ultrasound guidance for tissue slices, and have successfully replaced most surgical slices and computed tomography-guided slices. Later, color Doppler ultrasound was used to scan soft tissue tumors, and a fairly accurate preoperative diagnosis was obtained. In 1996, he began to study the application of other invasive ultrasound in the musculoskeletal system and achieved quite good results. In 2000, he received a grant from the National Science Council to complete the project "Calcific Tendinitis of the Rotary Band: Evaluation and Treatment with High-Resolution Ultrasound and Color Doppler Ultrasound", which was published in a well-known ultrasound medical journal. In 2004, he presented "Diagnosis of Soft Tissue Masses: The Role of High-Resolution Ultrasonography" at the RSNA Annual Meeting and won the "Certificate of Merit" award. "Color Doppler Utrasonography to Verify the Closure of Dural AV Fistulae After r-Knife Radiosurgery." won the third place in the Academic Paper Award of the Medical Ultrasound Society of the Republic of China in 2006. Published the academic paper "Differentiation between Schwannoma and Neurofibroma in extremities and superficial body: The Role of High Resolution Ultrasonography" at RSNA in 2006, which was well received. Ultrasound research results on peripheral lymphoma have been published in the American Journal of Ultrasound Medicine (JUM) and the World Journal of Ultrasound Medicine (UMB). Recently, he has devoted himself to the computer-aided diagnosis of soft tissue tumors and was invited to present preliminary research results at the "2006 International Symposium on Computer-Assisted Diagnosis". In 2007, he applied four-dimensional ultrasound in the interventional diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue tumors and published the results in the Journal of Radiology of SCI. He organized a bone radiology colleagues group to review the magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis of sports injuries on a monthly basis and held regular discussions with the sports medicine department to improve imaging. Diagnosis rate. Collaborated with domestic and foreign experts to publish "Ultrasound Imaging of the Musculoskeletal System". In 2008, the application of ultrasound in the identification of peripheral neuromas was published in SCI's Journal of Ultrasound Medicine. In 2009, the past research on the application of ultrasonic imaging in computer-aided diagnosis of soft tissue tumors was published in the journal of SCI. The component analysis of rotating annular calcification was analyzed using Raman spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy and was published in SCI's Rheumatology magazine. 2010: Held a seminar and practical meeting on "Application of Ultrasound in Peripheral Nerves" at the Asia-Ocean Radiology Annual Conference, which was highly recognized by students from all participating countries. He has been invited to serve as a lecturer and guide operations at international musculoskeletal ultrasound conferences many times. Ultrasound-guided pain control has been widely used since 2013, and good results have been obtained. Later, the "Ultrasound-Guided Pain Control Clinic" was established and placed in the radiation diagnosis and treatment clinic. It pioneered the treatment method immediately after diagnosis, which was well received.
