Characteristic

01. The Department of Radiology is composed of eight divisions including cardiopulmonary radiology, abdominal radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, pediatric and emergency radiology, ultrasonography and breast imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging. We have the most comprehensive subspecialty division among the hospitals nationwide.

02. Outpatient clinic: We have 9 sections of outpatient clinic service per week, aiming for evaluation and follow-up patients who will and have received interventional procedures. Our neuroradiology division also cooperate with the neurosurgeons to provide the multidisciplinary consultation service in the pediatric neurosurgical clinic, which is highly approved by patients.

03. Yttrium-90 Radioembolization: Our department is the first to perform Yttrium-90 Radioembolization in Taiwan. This therapy is indicated for patients with unresectable hepatic tumor, which can prolong patient life and possibly down staging for definitive surgery or liver transplantation. Since Jan 2008, we have more than 200 patients receiving this therapy.

04. Radiofrequency ablation: Our department is the pioneer to performed radiofrequency ablation in Taiwan. It is a less invasive technique for tumor treatment which can be applied for liver, kidney, lung, and musculoskeletal. It can shorten the days of hospitalization and decrease the financial burden for both the patients and the hospital. More than 3000 patients have been treated. The size of tumor indicated for treatment has been broaden from 5 cm to 7 cm.

05. Cryoablation：Our department is the pioneer to performed imaging-guided cryoablation in Taiwan. It is a less invasive technique for tumor treatment, which can be applied for kidney, adrenal gland, lung, musculoskeletal and retroperitoneum. Since 2010, more than 200 patients have been treated.

06. The recent advances of ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have brought whole body scanning for the purpose of health care into light. The VGH-Healthtech Imaging Center is the first in the world to utilize the integration of ultrafast MRI and ultrasound for the early detection of cancer, cerebrovascular disease and cardiovascular disease, the three leading causes of death in Taiwan. Unlike ordinary radiographs, MRI is far more accurate and precise, non-invasive, and radiation-free. Through the Internet, the concept of a virtual imaging center has also been realized. The images and the accordant report can be accessed by referring physicians of other institutions where patients have come from and also by institutions where patients may be transferred, thereby reducing unnecessary medical expenses.
