Preface

  Since establishment, the Department of Radiology has been supporting the growing clinical service of Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Our efforts are devoted to introducing the state-of-art technology and imaging equipment. To provide high quality medical care and maintain good international relationship, visiting program and staff exchanging program with other technically advanced medical centers in other countries have been regularly carried out.

Historical Mission

The mission of the Department of Radiology is to provide radiological examination, imaging diagnosis and imaging-guided therapy for patients. The department is currently composed of eight divisions including cardiopulmonary radiology, abdominal radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, pediatric and emergency radiology, ultrasonography and breast imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, as well as the VGH-HT Imaging Center

When founded in 1958, the department of radiology consisted of two divisions: diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy. In July 1966, the isotope division was established. In Apr 1974, the department of rearranged; the isotope division became the department of nuclear medicine, and the department of radiology consisted of two divisions: general diagnostic radiology and radiation therapy. In Aug 1975, the division of radiation therapy became the cancer treatment center. The department of radiology consisted of four divisions: general diagnostic radiology, cardiopulmonary radiology, gastrointestinal radiology, and neuroradiology. In 1981, two divisions were established: cardiovascular radiology and computed tomography. In Aug 1985, the department underwent another major rearrangement:  divisions of cardiopulmonary radiology and computed tomography were eliminated and three new divisions were established:  musculoskeletal radiology, pediatric radiology and ultrasonography. In Jan 1989, the division of general radiology was eliminated. Two new divisions were established: genitourinary radiology and magnetic resonance imaging. In Nov 2013, the division of genitourinary radiology was eliminated; a new division of interventional radiology was established and the division of gastrointestinal radiology was renamed as abdominal radiology.
