Laser

Laser therapy

Overview

"Laser" stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a single-wavelength source of high-energy light that can be accurately focused to transmit that light onto a tiny area to achieve the desired effects. Laser can be used for a variety of cosmetic procedures. In cosmetic use, lasers are used to improve the appearance of the skin, reduce the signs of aging, and treat various skin conditions.

Some common cosmetic uses of lasers include:

  • Laser hair removal
  • Skin resurfacing
  • Treatment of vascular lesions
  • Treatment of pigmented lesions

Procedure

Doctor and nurse would ask about medical history, take photos for record and discuss about expectations. According to different types of laser, skin lesion and patient preference, topical anesthesia may be applied before the treatment. During laser therapy, an intense beam of light energy (laser) is directed at your skin.

After ablative laser resurfacing, there will be wounds over treated skin. The wound would be covered by wound dressing or ointment. Ice-packing would help relieve the pain and irritation. New skin usually covers the area in one or two weeks and full recovery takes at least a month. During this time, avoid unprotected sun exposure and do not use products that may irritate your face. Non-ablative lasers takes minimal time to heal, but the skin might be swollen or inflamed for a few hours.

According to the different types of laser and skin lesions, patients may need one or more repeats of laser treatment.

Notification

Before the procedure, we suggest detailed discussion with your doctor. Please informed the doctor if you have any diseases, allergy history, and history of hypertrophic scar or keloid.

Laser treatments are generally considered safe and effective when performed by a trained professional. However, it's important to note that there may be some risks and side effects associated with laser procedures, such as skin irritation, redness, and scarring. Hyperpigmentation is common and vigilant sun protection is recommended to reduce the risk. Wound infection could rarely happen.
