Medical Clerk

Each medical clerk will learn to take care of approximately 3 patients and varies medical treatment and techniques under the direct supervision of a Resident and an Attending Physician. Medical clerks are responsible of performing history taking and physical examination of each newly admitted patient that they are assigned to, complete the admission notes, daily progress notes (with the POMR and SOAP format) and present their patients at the daily morning meetings.  

Medical Intern

Medical Interns will spend 2 weeks at the Geriatric Ward and the Palliative Ward and learn how to perform history taking, physical examinations, varies medical techniques, and the process of making appropriate diagnosis. They will also enhance their abilities in writing notes and presenting cases by participating in morning meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and daily chart round. They will familiarized with the role of a general practitioner, its core knowledge, mission, value and function by involving in grand round, team meeting, journal reading, study group and case discussion. Medical Interns will also discover the art of patient management through participating in outpatient clinics, they will learn how to deal with common complains, and become familiar with the core concepts of Family Medicine: comprehensiveness, coordination, continuity, accessibility and accountability. Medical Interns are required to participate in team meetings and will comprehend and employ the biopsychosocial model when taking care of a patient.

 

Residents

Our resident training program is a 3 year-long training program with focuses on outpatient service clinics, preventive care health, community medicine, long-term care, geriatrics and palliative medicine. The training consists of 4 months in general medicine, 1 month in general surgery, 3 months in paediatrics, 2 months in obstetric and gynaecology, 2 months in psychiatry, 2 months in geriatric ward, 2 months in palliative ward, 2 months in emergency department, 6 months in Community medicine, 1 month in dermatology, 1 month in Head and neck surgery, 1 month in rehabilitation, 6 month in Family medicine and 3 months of elective specialties. Resident will be trained in both clinics and in the ward, as well as in the community based clinics. Resident will also carry out researches on issues of the community while they are based at the community based clinics. Each resident will be assigned to a Balint group and a fraternity-sorority group, with the aim to evaluate one’s own performances and receive feedback and guidance from their supervisor. Starting from the first year of residency, each resident will have their own clinic, with the frequency increases as they advance into their residency.

 

Chief Residents

Chief Residents will be assigned to different tasks: Administration, Education, Community and Palliative Medicine.

 

Fellowships:

Fellows are required to carryout a family medicine related research and publish the results in Family medicine journal. They will also teach and guide residents to complete their community-based research, home visits and case presentation as well as participate in clinics.
