About Us

 

The Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology
Founded in 1959, the department is one of the gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary specialties with a long history, a large scale and a strong lineup in Taiwan. There are currently full-time attending physicians, all of whom are well-educated. They all have at least lecturer qualifications approved by the Ministry of Education, and many of them have teaching positions above the associate professor level. All colleagues in the department serve inpatients or outpatients with enthusiasm, love, and patience, and train interns, residents, and gastrointestinal specialist trainees with a rigorous and responsible attitude to complete the teaching, research, and service tasks undertaken by the department.


In terms of research, the undergraduate has published more than 50 medical papers abroad per year, and recently publish more than 100 SCI medical papers every year since 2020, and has many world-renowned research laboratories. In terms of services, there are a total of 175 inpatient beds to serve the veterans and patients across Taiwan.
Under the leadership of successive directors, Taipei Veterans General Hospital is a leader in the research and treatment of viral hepatitis, portal hypertension, and liver cancer. It trains excellent gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary specialists every year. A strong lineup of undergraduate physicians serves patients with gastrointestinal, liver and gallbladder related diseases. In recent years, it has developed characteristic medical treatment, such as comprehensive treatment of liver cancer, portal hypertension treatment, fecal bacteria transplantation, gastrointestinal tract cancer, and pancreatic cancer treatment. It is the first choice hospital for gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases in Taiwan.
