About Us

The Division of General Medicine is established in 2003 for the purpose of matching the “General Medicine Training Program of Post-graduate” set by Department of Health, Taiwan. It aimed to improve the excessively subspecialized residency training system at that time, and to strengthen and incorporate the medical knowledge and basic clinical technique of the residents. Now it is the most important teaching unit in Taipei Veterans General Hospital (VGH), responsible for the medical training of under-graduated year (UGY) and post-graduated year (PGY)-first year、(PGY)-Second year. The goal is to make the UGYs and PGYs familiar with the common medical problems, execute the basic primary medical care, and implement the idea of holistic health care.

The Division of General Medicine is known for its excellence in the efficacy of teaching: It has been awarded as the best teaching unit in Taipei VGH since 2003 to 2024,  21 years continuously.

The Division of General Medicine also executes the program of teacher cultivation for general medicine training set by Ministry of Health and Welfare, helping doctors from and outside Taipei VGH be trained as the teachers participating in general medicine training.

The Division of General Medicine has been in charge of the basic clinical skills training for the 5th Grade medical students of National Yang-Ming University since 2011. We have created novel methods of clinical teaching, such as:

1. The interactive Give Me Five case method、

2. The authentication of primary care、

3. Competition for Smart Clerk in group、

4. And further to strengthen the basic clinical skills of medical students.
