The General Medicine ward in Taipei Veterans General Hospital is equipped with comprehensive facilities and soft wares. The qualified and outstanding teachers and experienced relevant assistants and personnel have established the educational model of general medicine training. It not only creates a “trainee-based training environment”, but also provides “patient-based medical care”, which has received considerable and positive feedbacks from trainees and patients. The Division of General Medicine has been awarded as excellent teaching unit of Taipei VGH for 21 years since it was founded. In order to create an even more ideal training environment, we have applied for and received the grants from the Department of Health for the General Medicine Training and Demonstration Center since 2006. Besides, since the contrast signed in April 2006 and the launch of the center, the content of the program has fitted the teaching goal of cultivating six core competencies. With the special ward designed for General Medicine Training and Demonstration Center and the medical teaching team, the whole project is highly feasible and smoothly operated. 

In order to promote our experience and idea and to upgrade the training quality of other wards, we keep applying for the grants from Ministry of Health and Welfare, cultivating medical training teachers with the teaching technique encompassing six core competencies, and inviting the subspecialty doctors to join the teaching team. We want to face up with the increasing need of clinical teachers to promote the 2-year general medicine training program. Under the ordinary working mode of General Medicine Training and Demonstration Center, we designed a  comprehensive program of general medicine clinical practice training courses, including outpatient clinics teaching, bedside teaching, meetings (composed of morning meeting, evidence-based medicine, medical ethics, and multidisciplinary case discussion), learning evaluation (including MINI-CEX and OSCE), training efficacy evaluation and feedback to cultivate the teaching technique encompassing the six core competencies efficiently.
