In the face of consecutive global pandemic and the drastic economic change owing to the China-America conflict, Taiwan has been endeavored to nurture qualified technical personnel in an attempt to stay its reputation of being one of the medical pivots amid Asia. Not to mention the sudden appearance of the COVID-19 and the recent Omicron variant has once again drawn out many difficulties in our daily lives. To leave no stone unturned in this regard, contemporary medical education should incorporate healthcare training with high technology, artificial intelligence, the remote and cloud equipment; in addition, we should also explore its potentiality in the aspect of metaverse. Our long-term ally, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University for example, has first established the Industry Academia Innovation School (IAIS), aiming at increasing and accelerating the yields of industry-academia cooperation in Taiwan. Taipei Veterans General Hospital will continue to work closely with NYCU and its satellite hospitals (Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and those in eastern Taiwan) in cultivating more Healthcare professionals who will also be qualified with interprofessional skills.
To drive the momentum of the national policy, Taipei Veteran General Hospital will hold an international symposium of medical education in 2022 with the main theme “Interprofessional Education-Will the Metaverse reshape the Vein of Medical Education’, hoping to leave an opening contemplation to our attendees before and after the event. We intend to inspire your thoughts by introducing some internationally renowned speakers, including Pr. Ostherr from Rice University, Pr. Webster from University of Auckland and Dean Sean D. Sullivan, School of Pharmacy, from University of Washington as well as professionals nationwide who will demonstrate their rich research experiences associated with clinical training and innovative technologies. The symposium consists of four sessions that entitle ‘medicine in the digital age’, ‘technological implementations in clinical practice’, ‘inter-professional personnel training at industry-academia collaboration’, and ‘the impact of metaverse in future medical education’. On the following day of the symposium, the CEO of Innova Corp., Pr. Tsuen-Chiuan Tsai, will introduce the applications developed by her company to the attendees in hope of promoting the spirit of distant applications and boosting virtual practicality.
