Established in July 1983, Dr. Luo Huixi served as the first department head. During his tenure, the department included attending physicians such as Fang Zongyi, Huang Zhixian, Liang Bo-ling, Chen Quanmu, and Huang Qinggui. This hospital was the first in the country to establish a separate orthopedic trauma department. During this time, a large number of pioneering concepts and techniques in fracture treatment were introduced from abroad, along with advanced fracture fixation devices, laying a solid foundation for future development.

In January 1990, Dr. Chen Tianxiong became the second department head. Attending physicians during his tenure included Chen Quanmu, Huang Qinggui, Qiu Fangyao, Chen Weiming, and Jiang Zhaoqing. In addition to the original fracture trauma treatment, joint replacement and bone tumor surgery also flourished under the leadership of Deputy Director Chen Tianxiong.

In January 2002, Dr. Chen Weiming became the third department head. Attending physicians during his tenure included Huang Qinggui, Jiang Zhaoqing, Chen Zhengfeng, and Wu Bogui. This period coincided with the development of a new generation of fracture internal fixation devices, introducing multiple new types of bone materials. In joint reconstruction surgery and bone tumor surgery, the department continued to shine domestically and internationally.

In March 2014, Dr. Jiang Zhaoqing became the fourth department head. Attending physicians in the department were Huang Qinggui and Lin Junzheng. Dr. Wang Jianshun joined the team in 2017. During this period, the focus was on minimally invasive fracture trauma surgery and the development of arthroscopic-assisted fracture surgery. Particularly in the field of lower limb ankle joint arthroscopic-assisted fracture surgery, considerable leading-edge technology has been developed and results have been presented at international medical conferences.

In August 2023, Dr. Wang Jianshun became the fifth department head. The department will continue to develop innovative fracture treatment techniques, research and develop a new generation of fracture fixation devices, strengthen cooperation with basic research, actively participate in international conferences, aiming to exchange and integrate internationally in the field of fracture trauma, and pass on to the younger generation.
