The Taipei Veterans General Hospital's Transcatheter Valve Team was the first in Taiwan to introduce the technique of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) through catheterization. We successfully performed the first TAVI procedure in Taiwan and completed the human trial approved by the Department of Health (now known as the Ministry of Health and Welfare).
Our Hybrid OR is the first high-specification hybrid operating room in Taiwan. Its dust level is less than 5% of the standard value, and its sterile specifications are more rigorous than other operating rooms. It is equipped with the latest digital cardiovascular imaging X-ray machine, which captures images in real-time and reassembles them into 3D images, completing a 360-degree rotation in 6 seconds. This reduces false images caused by heartbeats or patient breathing and provides high-precision images, significantly reducing surgery time, and minimizing the use of anesthesia, contrast agents, and radiation exposure to patients.
Our team is composed of a small group of interdisciplinary doctors specializing in cardiology and surgery, who have set numerous records.
In 2018, the first valve team in Taiwan to receive national quality certification (SNQ), demonstrating our commitment to providing patients with the best medical care and treatment.
We also pioneered the use of local anesthesia, developed the innovative "double sheath connection technique" to reduce the risk of cerebral ischemia, and achieved the world's lowest permanent pacemaker implantation rate after surgery.
