Introduction

The Neurology Residency at Taipei Veteran General Hospital is a three-year program. The major goal of the program is to train leaders in neurology through acquisition of excellent clinical skills and the knowledge in academic neurology.

Under system-based practice, residents learn patient care, medical knowledge, and interpersonal and communication skills. Through practice-based learning and improving, they would achieve professionalism eventually.

A rich diversified curriculum is provided, including inpatient service of each subspecialties, neurologic intensive care unit, outpatient services, consultative services, special techniques for neurologic laboratory examination, and elective session to psychiatry, rehabilitation, pediatric neurology, neuroradiology, and neuropathology.

In morning meetings, residents or interns present cases to others. With the guidance of a chief resident and an attending physician, residents augment the clinical experiences by discussing the different neurologic diseases. In addition to Journal Meetings, didactic sessions take places every Thursday morning by faculty or senior residents, one of which is video session of movement disorders. To strengthen the clinical skills, residents can participate in the daily service round, weekly teaching round, and case demonstration every week. Combined conferences of multidisciplinary teams make the residents learn comprehensively. Residents are encouraged to utilize time to pursue clinical and laboratory research of their interest.
