Geriatric Psychiatry

 

In the department of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, after making subspecialty sections, the section of geriatric psychiatry was established in 1987, for psychiatric care and specialized services for mental health patients over 65 years old, and the establishment of geriatric psychiatric clinics and the acute mental ward by specialized geriatric psychiatrists in charge of the elderly patient, and the development of teaching and research programs for geriatric psychiatry.

 

Faculty

Currently, geriatric psychiatric section has 3 attending psychiatrists, and all are specialized geriatric psychiatrists. The section chief is Dr. Chia-Feng Tsai (Assistant Professor), and attending psychiatrists, Dr. Mu-En Liu (Assistant Professor) and Dr. Chih-Ming Cheng (PhD candidate).

 

Teaching and Training Features

1. In addition to the original residency training program, we also extended to the fellowship of geriatric psychiatry, which have been designed to integrate relevant teaching and assessment program, in addition to acute wards and consultation to long-term care in the day ward and nursing homes.

2. Cooperation with the Department of Neurology and training seminars organized neuropsychiatric cases together.

3. Participation in the training and clinical service of the center of geriatric and gerontology to discuss with clinically relevant cases.

 

Research Project Features

1. In the past, we engaged in a series of behavioral studies of senile dementia disorders and psychiatric symptoms related research, and the use of drugs in elderly psychiatric patients, and published more than 20 papers in international journals.

2. Dr. Tsai MD.PhD graduated from Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University's Institute of Brain Research and has a strong interest in organic psychoses.

3. Dr. Liu MD.PhD graduated from Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University's Institute of Brain Research and has a strong interest in the function and structure of the elderly disease related genes and brain research.

3. Dr. Liu MD.PhD graduated from Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University's Institute of Brain Research and has a strong interest in the function and structure of the elderly disease related genes and brain research.

3. Dr. Cheng is currently studying for PhD at the Institute of Brain Science Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University, taking special interests in the depression and brain stimulation.
