Kai-Chun Yang, MD, PhD

Kai-Chun Yang, MD, PhD
Attending Psychiatrist, Section of Adult Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan (2017/12–)

Professional Summary

Dr. Yang received his psychiatry residency training at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (2005-2009). From 2013 to 2017, he entered the PhD program at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience of Karolinska Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Sjoerd J. Finnema, Prof. Lars Farde, Prof. Christer Halldin and Dr. Akihiro Takano. The title of his thesis book is “PET studies on the mechanisms of action of antidepressant and antipsychotic drugs”. Dr. Yang modified PET imaging paradigms to improve the sensitivity of imaging and extended it to intracellularly located enzymes such as phosphodiesterase 10A. Since December 2017, Dr. Yang starts to be an attending psychiatrist at TVGH. Currently, he uses molecular imaging to study the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders, for example, the relationship among clinical course, cognitive impairment and dopamine transporter availability in suicidal attempters with CO intoxication. Serotonin transporter availability in patients with bipolar disorders associated with biomarkers, clinical course and cognitive impairment was also investigated. Some research regarding multimodality imaging (e.g. combination of molecular imaging and MRI) have also been performed. Moreover, Dr. Yang would like to expand his work into the application of simultaneous PET/MRI to explore the hidden area of neuropsychiatry.
