The Chest Department was founded in December 1962 to replace the former Tuberculosis Department. It is comprised of four divisions: General Chest Medicine, Pulmonary Immunology & Infectious Disease, Thoracic Oncology and Clinical Respiratory Physiology. The department provides complete diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients with chest diseases, and carries out training and research programs pertaining to chest disorders. In addition, it performs sleep apnea evaluations and was the first to introduce the Gold Vapor Laser into the country. It has a well-equipped lung cancer laboratory to serve lung cancer patients, and serves more than 20% of the lung cancer patients in Taiwan.
