The Center of Geriatrics and Gerontology
The Center of Geriatrics and Gerontology was founded in 2006 to improve care for the senior people as the population in Taiwan ages with a record-high speed. Our goal is to provide not only a seamless elderly medical service through the cooperation among our hospital, the Veterans Hospitals and Veterans Homes in Northern Taiwan, we are also promoting “ healthy aging” through conducting several pilot projects with liaisons with other hospitals and national research institutions in Taiwan.
Geriatric Medicine Sub-specialty training
We provide 1-year training program with curricula in the fields of geriatric medicine core knowledge, in-patient geriatric care, community-based geriatric medicine, elderly long-term care, geriatric palliative medicine, geriatric rehabilitation and geriatric neurology. It also includes workshops every 2-3 months sponsored by the British Geriatric Society. Trainees get the advantages for the most updated geriatric advancements through lectures and discussions with extinguished scholars from United Kingdom , Canada , and Japan , as well as from clerkship and clinical observations in the teaching hospitals in U.K or Japan .
Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Outpatient Clinic service
Our outpatient clinics are characterized with “Joint specialties service in one-stop clinic” to eliminate the unnecessary trips from home to the hospital for the elderly. Our main focus has shifted to functional optimization and restoration rather than the conventional “organ-specific” medical care. Through comprehensive geriatric assessments, the long-ignored Geriatric Syndrome can be highlighted and hence we can make individualized care plan for each senior patient.
Geriatric Inpatient Care
Our multi-disciplinary team recruits members from various aspects of professions including physicians (geriatricians, family physicians, neurologists, psychiatrists, PM&R doctors…), nurses, dietitians, clinical pharmacists, physical/occupational therapists, social
