Foreword

The VGH Emergency Medicine Resident Doctor Training Program started in 1988, and has produced prominent alumni, and has prompted the creation of similar programs in other medical centers. In 1997, the field of Emergency Medicine was officially recognized as a major specialization by the Ministry of Health, and marked an important milestone in the history of medical history of Taiwan. The VGH is well equipped with an abundance of medical resources, and is able to provide a full spectrum of training according to each physician’s interests and needs. Some of the unique training we can provide include Backwoods Medicine, Environmental Medicine, Aerospace Medicine, Deep Ocean Medicine, High Barometric Oxygen Training, Pre-Hospital Care, First Aid, Trauma, Severe Ailment Treatment etc. Through a combination of hands-on experience and discussion of case history, the VGH trains resident doctors to focus on the needs of the patient in order to provide holistic, comprehensive care.
