Falls

Overview
Falls can lead to fractures, hospitalization, reduced mobility, decline in overall physical and mental well-being, and increased risk of institutionalization and mortality in older people.
Falls prevention is crucial for older adults to maintain quality of life and prevent negative health outcomes. These interventions can include medication reviews, chronic condition management, vision assessment, reenablement program, use of assistive devices and environmental hazard evaluation.

Procedure
1. History taking and physical/neurological examination related to dizziness, syncope, and unsteady gait
2. Medication review and suggestion: especially blood pressure lowering agents and medication with high anticholinergic burden
3. Comprehensive geriatric assessment
4. Laboratory and image studies
5. Osteoporosis survey and treatment
6. In-hospital reenablement program: include resistance and balance exercise and use of assistive device.
7. Linkage of postacute or long-term care after discharge
