Description

Note

Overview

The cardiac electrophysiology laboratory, led by Professor Shih-Ann Chen, is a multidisciplinary team. We provide state-of-the-art and patient-oriented diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders while maintaining a regional, national, and international leadership role in advancing cardiac arrhythmia research, education, and health care delivery standards.

Features

The team members developed “Taipei Approach” for AF ablation and change the global ablation consensus in AF management. The team firstly introduce the concept of time-frequency in AF ablation and VT ablation.

The team members have discovered numerous novel electrophysiologic mechanisms and ablation techniques for arrhythmia treatment. This team has made an outstanding academic achievement (Circulation: 32 articles; JACC: 32 articles; book chapter: 40 sections) and has been recognized as an international pioneer and leader in the field of radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmia.

Procedure

The database shows nearly 4,500 cases of atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter ablation in recent 20 years and nearly 1000 patients for ventricular arrhythmia (VA) ablation (1/4 substrate VA) in recent ten years. The success rate of cardiac arrhythmia ablation (1-year AF-free rate, Taipei Veterans General Hospital: paroxysmal: 84.3%, persistent: 70.6%; global: paroxysmal: 74.9%, persistent: 64.8%; Acute success for VA ablation: 90.2%) in our laboratory is higher than many well-known international centers, and our procedure-related complication rate is lower than the published international registry data (complication rate: Taipei Veterans General Hospital: 2.59%; global: 4.54%).
