Introduction of the Biobank VGHTPE
The purposes of Biobank are to collect quality human biological specimens, and protect both the privacy and interests of the participants. Thus, researchers can have well access to the valuable samples, and engage relevant biological and medical researches.
Residual sample bank and its Management Committee was established under the instruction of Superintendent VGHTPE on January 14th, 1997, integrating residual sample collections from several departments including Internal medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oral Medicine, Pathology, Neurology Center, Urology, and Head and Neck Surgery. These residual samples were collected in a centralized bank according to standard operating procedures of collection, preservation and application.
Biobank Information Systems (BIS) and Specimen tracking system (STS) were also built to find disease risk factors and genetic changes, in line with the clinical data, and finally for the purpose of better diagnoses and treatments.
Human Biobank Act has been amended on January 26th, 2011 and become effective on February 5, 2012.With the established Ethics Committee and Biobank, it is highly expected to enhance our biomedical researches.
