Clinical Elective Program for Foreign Medical Students
Introduction |
The Department of Pediatrics has nine divisions, which are General Pediatrics, Neonatology, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Genetics and Endocrinology, Pediatric Infectious Disease, Pediatric Immunology and Nephrology, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. As a department in one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in Taiwan, there are 185 beds available, including 28 in the intensive care unit (16 Pediatric ICU and 12 Neonatal ICU). There are also 20 seasoned attending physicians. To evaluate the different disorders in children, we provide many specialized modalities such as bronchoscopy room, gastroscopy and colonoscopy room, electroencephalography (EEG), electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography, 24-hour Holter monitor, Treadmill exercise test, Cath lab, Lab of infection, immunology and hematology. |
Objective |
1. Learn and practice how to take integrated patient history, perform physical examinations for children, and further make tentative and differential diagnoses. 2. Know the indications and essential interpretations of specialized tests in children. 3. Perform evidence-based practice.

WEEK ONE 1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds. 2. Attend pediatric core-lectures and meetings. 3. Visit pediatric examination rooms (EEG, ECG, echocardiography, Cath room, gastroscopy and colonoscopy room, bronchoscope room and Lab).
WEEK TWO 1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds. 2. Attend pediatric core-lectures and meetings. 3. Visit the pediatric clinics.
WEEK THREE (selective) 1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds. 2. Participate in pediatric consultations with supervisors. 3. Visit the pediatric clinics. 4. Attend the pediatric meetings.
WEEK FOUR (selective) 1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds. 2. Participate in pediatric consultation with supervisors. 3. Visit the pediatric clinics. 4. Attend the pediatric meetings.
