Comprehensive round-the-clock stroke treatment center and diagnostic services.
The Taipei Veterans General Hospital Neurovascular Department and Stroke Center have received numerous accolades, including the 2015 International Health Promotion Alliance Achievement Award, 2021 Disease Care Quality Certification, and the 2022 SNQ National Quality Label. Our mission is to serve patients and promote health, offering international-standard emergency stroke care, proactive prevention of cerebrovascular diseases, post-stroke early rehabilitation, and clinical trials for new drugs and medical devices.
Reflecting back to 1998, we established the nation's first Neuro-ICU, equipped with facilities for neurovascular ultrasound examinations, tilt table autonomic nervous system testing, inner ear balance assessments, cerebral circulation regulation tests, and genetic testing for hereditary cerebrovascular diseases. In 2021, we renovated the Neuro-ICU into eight independent rooms, enhancing patient privacy, comfort, and reducing infection risks.
Specialized services of our department include: acute ischemic stroke intervention, pharmacological and surgical treatments for cerebral hemorrhage, treatment of severe chronic carotid artery stenosis with drugs and stent placement, management of dizziness, vascular dementia, complex cerebrovascular diseases, and hereditary cerebrovascular diseases. In addition to intravenous thrombolysis within 4.5 hours for acute ischemic stroke, our hospital pioneered nationwide the implementation of intra-arterial thrombectomy within 24 hours starting from 2020. Utilizing real-time intelligent imaging, we provide year-round, round-the-clock rapid intra-vascular clot removal surgery and optimal drug therapy. We established a regional joint referral system for acute ischemic stroke and an air-transported stroke rescue system for the outlying island of Kinmen, improving functional recovery for stroke patients in remote areas. Furthermore, we also pioneered early bedside rehabilitation within 48 to 72 hours after stroke at stable condition, aimed at reducing mortality and promoting recovery. We facilitate transition to an integrated care plan for post-acute care for stroke at discharge and offer stroke-related health education and long-term rehabilitation resources. We actively participate in the Taiwan Stroke Care Association, Taipei Veterans General Hospital Patient Association, and provide proactive assistance to patients and their families through challenging times of illness.
