General Neurology

Our Division of General Neurology consists of a multidisciplinary team of neurological specialists with particular expertise in treating dementia, headaches, and movement disorders. In our dementia group, we evaluate people with memory problems or cognitive impairments, including, but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, and normal pressure hydrocephalus. In Taiwan, we have established the "Dementia Treatment and Research Center", an interdisciplinary group of geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, psychologists, and other allied health professionals involved in dementia research and patient care. Through our teamwork, the multidisciplinary care of demented patients has been extended to the community. Each year, our headache group treats thousands of patients with distinct causes of headache, including migraine, cluster headache, reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndromes, spontaneous intracranial hypotension, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and trigeminal neuralgia. With the help of an anesthesiologist, we administer epidural blood patch injections for the treatment of spontaneous intracranial hypotension. For decades, our headache group has been a leading group in the pathophysiology of migraine, reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome, and spontaneous intracranial hypotension. The movement disorder group evaluates and treats people with all kinds of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, dystonia, ataxia, tremor, restless leg syndrome, etc. A comprehensive preoperative evaluation is provided for patients undergoing deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease, intractable tremor, dystonia, and Tourette syndrome. Our team has recently collaborated with neurosurgeons to use focused ultrasound to treat patients with intractable tremors.

Our division currently have seven physicians. Neurocognition, neuroimaging, neurogenetics, and neurorehabilitation are continually being improved so that we can provide the best diagnosis and treatment for our patients. Our research focuses on pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of the disease.
