To implement the government’s policy of caring for veterans and improve the quality of medical care, Taipei Veterans General Hospital was established in Shipai, Taipei in 1958. For over the past six decades, the Hospital has upheld the core principle of “treating patients as if they were family members”. We are dedicated to advancing medical innovation and improving service quality, providing patient-centered healthcare that addresses the physical, mental and spiritual needs of our patients, a convenient healthcare environment and humanized services.
To date, TVGH has evolved into a national-level medical center specializing in the care and treatment of acute, critical, complex, and rare diseases, shouldering the three main missions of providing medical care, cultivating medical professionals through teaching and doing research. We work in line with national medical policies, fulfill the government’s responsibility of taking care of the people’s health, and continue to move toward the vision of “becoming the first choice of citizens seeking healthcare services and ranking as a first -class international medical center”.
Resilient TVGH, Healthy Taiwan
While public hospitals represent only about one-third of the nation’s total hospital bed capacity, they have served as a cornerstone of healthcare systems in responding to major pandemics and unexpected disasters. With the growing complexity of global disaster risks, critical healthcare infrastructure is facing unprecedented challenges. Therefore, driving the “resilient transformation” of Taiwan’s overall healthcare system has become an urgent challenge.
In view of these challenges, we not only place strong emphasis on our sustainable operations and capacity to withstand impacts, but also actively expand our social impact. In 2025, through the “Medical Resilience, Safeguarding a Healthy Taiwan” seminar organized by the Association of Public Hospitals of the Republic of China, TVGH called upon and connected public hospitals at all levels across Taiwan to actively develop a “Medical Resilience Corridor” by establishing a comprehensive regional defense networks, exploring diversified resilience mechanisms through vertical integration and horizontal collaboration,  and contributing our critical capabilities to the development of a highly resilient national healthcare protection network.
Aligning with National Healthcare Policies
As a national medical center, TVGH primarily serves the Beitou and Shilin Districts of Taipei City. We actively cooperate with national health policies, enhance healthcare quality, optimize the workplace environment, advance smart healthcare, support medical care in remote areas and outlying islands, and strengthen cancer prevention and control to safeguard public health. In addition, the Veterans Affairs Council's Northern Region Veterans Medical System has expanded its service capacity to Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Yilan, and Hualien-Taitung areas, and continues to participate in the National Health Insurance Administration's Integrated Delivery System (IDS) program, deeply cultivating outlying island areas such as Kinmen, to embody medical equality.
In response to the growing strategic importance of global healthcare resilience and sustainable development, the Hospital officially established a new organizational objective in 2025: “To build a resilient and sustainable green hospital”. With the 4 core objectives and 18 strategic actions, we will comprehensively build a green healthcare model that integrates resilience, intelligence, and low-carbon sustainability.
Major Construction Projects
Over the past three years, the Hospital has been committed to advancing major infrastructure upgrades, and the Chang-Ching Building, the new surgery building, the Heavy Ion Therapy Center, and the high-tech negative pressure intensive care unit have been successively completed and put into use. Simultaneously, the entire campus area underwent environmental greening and landscape enhancement, while the renovation and repair of the Gymnasium, the outpatient department buildings, the ICUs, P3 laboratory, various examination rooms, Big Data Center, and multi-department office space were completed, laying a solid foundation for sustainable healthcare.
In 2025, the Hospital continued to invest in the construction projects of the Cardiovascular Center Building and the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) Center, and actively carried out the planning for the Xinyi Campus. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) Center
The Boron Neutron Capture Therapy Center that is currently under construction has received a generous donation of NT$ 1.2 billion from Mr. Archie Hwang, founder and chairman of Hermes-Epitek Corporation, to fully support National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University in developing domestically produced accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) equipment. Construction of the center officially commenced in August, 2025, and is expected to be completed for operation in 2027. By then, Taipei Veterans General Hospital will become one of the very few medical institutions in the world to possess both state-of-the-art heavy particle therapy and BNCT technologies, driving Taiwan to join the ranks of international leaders in the fields of cancer radiotherapy and cutting-edge research.

Cardiovascular Center Building
Cardiovascular medicine plays a critical role in the modern healthcare system, encompassing precision diagnosis, advanced therapeutic interventions, and integrated rehabilitation care for diverse cardiovascular conditions. Given that the current Shih-Yuan Building where the Cardiovascular Center is located has served for over five decades, and the existing space and infrastructure can no longer meet the rapidly evolving demands of modern medical technology, the Hospital has planned an investment of NTD 6 billion for the construction of a new Cardiovascular Center Building.
This construction project will comprehensively upgrade and integrate the cardiac surgery intensive care unit, acute general ward, modern operating room, and high-end medical examination space in the original Shih-Yuan Building. This new facility will mark a comprehensive renewal of the Hospital’s healthcare infrastructure and a paradigm shift in healthcare delivery, enabling enhanced clinical capabilities to fulfill the nation’s mission of safeguarding the health and well-being of all citizens.
