Previous and Present Chiefs

First : Chief Hong Chuchen(1959 to April,1976)

      The most senior plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Taiwan(R.O.C.)
      Founder of specialty of plastic and reconstructive surgery
      Pioneer of developing reconstruction surgery of head and neck cancer
 
Second : Chief Yu-Hung King(April,1976 to September, 1986)

       Founder and first director of Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery
       After training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he created burn center at Shih-Yuan Building and planned a new burn center at Chong-Cheng Building. 
       Focus on the study of the treatment of electrical burn injury and publish several articales. He cooperated with TaiPower and committed to the electric burn prevention education. 
Considering rapid development of plastic surgery, Chief King founded Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery for training of specialists and served as first director. He was devoted to education of medical students through the subject named "special topic of surgery". In 1981, Taiwan Commercial Press published "Chinese modern surgery - Plastic surgery", edited by chief Yu-Hung King, and it is one of the most important reference books of plastic surgery.
     
Third: Chief Rong-Hwang Fang (September, 1986 to March, 2003)​

       Chief went for advanced studies at St. Louis Hospital in Paris, France. Following chief Ly-Young Shen, he was devoted to the development and training of microsurgery. He performed first sex reassignment surgery in Taiwan and continued its research and development. He used free osteocutaneous flap for penis reconstruction instead of fasciocutaneous flap.  This flap help patients have improvement in outward appearance and function. In 1991, chief Fang received " Medical Innovation Award" for clitoroplasty, which treats primary male-to-female sexualism. 
       He also introduced several kinds of laser surgery and engaged in epidermal cell culture and its clinical application. In 1977, he did the reconstructive microsurgery for the finger or limb replantation. 
       In terms of laser therapy, Chief Fang introduced ruby laser to treat veterans' political tattoo in response to cross-straits opening. Thus it is beneficial to many veterans for their retuning home with relief. 
       In 20th March, 2002, Dr. Fang established the first medical aesthetic center among public hospitals and it provides safety, reliable and comfortable environment for more medical services.

 
Fourth: Chief Hsu Ma (March, 2003 to April, 2015)

        Doctor of Medical Science, National Yang Ming University
Chief Ma went for advanced studies in the Department of Molecular Medicine in The University of Auckland, New Zealand. He became honorary senior research fellow and visiting associate professor of gene therapy center. He promoted sub-specialty teams including microsurgery and limb reconstruction, burn injury and medical cosmetic surgery. Each team leader is responsible for integration of medical services, research and teaching programs. For example, the team of microsurgery and limb reconstruction performed more than 100 surgical cases of head and neck cancer in 2008. Our specialist, Dr. Tian Xiang Wang joined the group of organ transplantation and was invited to perform transnational living donor liver transplantation jointly in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2008. Chief Ma also increased profits and reduced expences by lowering the opportunity cost of personnel and equipments. He added contractual attending physicians to promote the flexibility of reserve talents and performance management. Then he obtainied permission to sign cooperation agreement with professional cosmetic clinic to enhance the group of surgeon. 
        Chief Ma set up tissue bank of divisional labratory, which collects and stores fat and skin tissue for basic research and clinical application. He also developed large tissue back with hospital. 
        Chief Ma deepened cultivation of clinical talents and sophisticated clinical research. He also actively recommended members to study abroad to carry on research of composite tissue allograft transplantation and cellular treatment.
        In services, Chief Ma cooperated with Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of dermatology, Department of Clinical Toxicology & Occupational Medicine and Division of Allergy, Immunology, Rheumatology to develop anti-aging medicine in aesthetic medical center, providing a single-unit, multi-directional communication, interdisciplinary medical service platform. With the innovation of technology, he updated equipments and facilities of aesthetic medical center under the supervisor's instructions to keep up with the times and offer more services.  

 
Fifth: Chief Cherng-kang Perng(May, 2015 to May 2021)

       Chief Perng received general surgical resident training in our department of surgery from 1996, and plastic and reconstructive surgical resident training from 1998. He became an attending physician in 2003 and specializes in microscopic reconstructive surgery. He was served as director of microsurgery group. He joined the team of multidisciplinary oral cancer treatment and was responsible for development of microscopic free flap reconstructive surgery. 
       In academic research, he went for retraining during 2004-2010 and received his doctor's degree at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Yang Ming University. His main research were tissue engineering and angiogenesis. He studied abroad as a visiting scholar at the Institute of Biomedical engineering at University of California, San Diego. he did research in the field of cellular array and impact of stretching stimulus on stem cell differentiation.
       Dr. Perng became Chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery in May, 2005. Dust explosion at water park happened on 27th, June, 2015. Dr. Peng had good performance by organizing multidisplinary treatment team and coordinate the treatment affairs under the instructions of the Superintendent, Vice Superintendent and all the supervisors. 
       Dr, Perng is planning the furture and pursue excellence on the existing foundation. The focus on the development is including microscopic surgical reconstruction, breast reconstruction, Multidisciplinary treatment on chronic wound, aesthetic medicine, craniofacial wound reconstruction, burn medicine, promotion of clincal services and academic research.
 
 
Sixth: Chief Tien-Hsiang Wang (April, 2022 to present)
