Myositis Panel

  • Overview:Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a heterogeneous group of myositis, characterised by chronic muscle weakness, cutaneous features, different extra-muscular manifestations and circulating autoantibodies) . Myositis-specific autoantibodies panel tests are positive in 45 to 85 percent of patients.

  • Features:Myositis Panel is useful for differential evaluation of polymyositis, dermatomyositis, necrotizing autoimmune myopathy, or overlap syndromes.

  • Procedure:It is a simple blood test that is used to identify certain specific antibodies (Ig formed against skeletal muscles in a patient with autoimmune myositis.

  • Notification:These tests are positive in 45 to 85 percent of patients; thus, a negative myositis panel does not rule out a diagnosis of IIM. Experts use myositis autoantibody panels to determine what particular myositis phenotype may best fit the patient rather than to make a diagnosis of myositis.
