Clinical Elective Program for Foreign Medical Students

Introduction

The Department of Urology has three divisions, which are General Urology, Female and Pediatric Urology and Male Reproductive Medicine. As one of the largest urological programs in Taiwan, we provide a most comprehensive training opportunity to all levels of learners. There are 95 beds available. There are also 14 full-time attending physicians, four of them also professors. To evaluate and manage urological disorders, we provide many specialized diagnostic and treatment facilities, including urodynamic lab, endourological rooms, urological ultrasound, transrectal ultrasound, da Vince robot, laparoscopic services, ESWL rooms, stone analysis lab and male infertility lab in Center of Reproductive Medicine.

Learning Objectives

1. Learn and practice how to take integrated patient history, perform urological examinations, and further make urological differential diagnoses.

2. Know the indications and essential interpretations of specialized urological tests.

3. Perform evidence-based practice.

4. Observe common urological procedures, and out-patients visit.

Tentative Schedule

WEEK ONE

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds.

2. Attend urological core-lectures and meetings.

3. Visit urological examination rooms and operating rooms (Urodynamics, ESWL, ultrasound, robot surgery, basic endourlogy procedures).

 

WEEK TWO

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds.

2. Attend urological core-lectures and meetings.

3. Visit the urological clinics.

 

WEEK THREE (selective)

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds.

2. Participate in urological consultations with supervisors.

3. Visit the urological clinics.

4. Attend the urological combined meetings.

5. Visit urological examination rooms and operating rooms (microsurgery, open surgery).

 

WEEK FOUR (selective)

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching/management rounds.

2. Participate in urological consultation with supervisors.

3. Visit the urological clinics.

4. Attend the urological combined meetings.

5. Visit urological examination rooms and operating rooms (advanced experiences in complicated cases).
