Clinical Elective Program for International Medical Students

 

Introduction

The Department of Radiology has nine divisions, including Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, Abdominal Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Pediatric and Emergency Radiology, Respiratory and Circulatory Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Imaging Center. Department of Radiology at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (VGH) is the leading radiological institution in Taiwan, providing the entire spectrum of state-of-the art imaging and radiological modalities and services in a comfortable environment, and producing the largest quality images and most efficient services. The department is also famous for all image-guided interventional procedures, either diagnostic or minimally invasive therapeutic techniques. As the frontier of healthcare provider, the Department strongly supports Taipei Veterans General Hospital, one of the largest and most advanced hospitals in Taiwan.

Objective

1. Learn and practice how to take the advantage of medical imaging to make correct diagnoses.

2. Know the indications and essential interpretations of some commonly used imaging modalities.

3. Perform evidence-based practice.

Tentative Schedule

WEEK ONE

1. Pretest for the knowledge of medical imaging

2. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching rounds.

3. Attend radiological grand round and morning meetings.

4. Visit Respiratory/Circulatory Radiology and Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology reporting rooms.

WEEK TWO

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching rounds.

2. Attend radiological grand round and morning meetings.

3. Visit Ultrasonography, Breast Imaging, and Abdominal Radiology reporting rooms.

WEEK THREE (selective)

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching rounds.

2. Attend radiological grand round and morning meetings.

3. Visit MRI, and Pediatric and Emergency Radiology reporting room.

4. Visit interventional examination rooms.

WEEK FOUR (selective)

1. Participate in resident work rounds & attending teaching rounds.

2. Attend radiological grand round and morning meetings.

3. Visit Neuroradiology interventional examination rooms and reporting room.

4. After-test for the knowledge of medical imaging.
