Stomatology (Dentistry)

Stomatology (Dentistry)

Clinical Elective Program for Foreign Dental Students

Introduction

The core practices of the Stomatology Department include Restorative Dentistry Division, Endodontics & Periodontics Division, Pedodontics & Orthodontics Division, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Division, and Family Dentistry Division. As a whole, the department aims to provide complete medical and surgical care for children and adults with dental problems. The department has 108 dental chairs, 24 ward beds and 2 operating rooms exclusively for oral & maxillofacial surgeries and pediatric dental surgeries. The Department has completed the greatest number of cases of oral prosthetics and removable dentures in Taiwan. We also take the lead in having performed the most oral and maxillofacial surgeries.

We focus on the balanced triad of development in clinical healthcare services, education and researches. As a teaching institution, the department accepts a maximum number of 40 local dental interns for 1-year training program, 40 resident doctors for general and professional training.

With long-term cooperation with National Yang-Ming University under the joint platform of VGH-NYMU, we are able to publish each year in international periodicals the results of our basic and clinical studies. In recent years, multi-specialty cooperative projects have been underway on subjects such as oral soft and hard tissue engineering, stem cell study and material medicine.
