Clinical Electives for International Nursing Students

  • Timeframe: Observership Program is a minimum of one week and a maximum of four weeks in duration.
  • Program Content: International nursing students will be offered:
  • A comprehensive orientation
  • Introduction of specialty nursing of units.
  • Demonstration and returned demonstration of nursing technical skills.
  • The additional contents can be added according to clinical specialty areas of nursing practice.
  • Nursing unit: A unit request direct from international nursing students is accepted.
  • Learning Objectives: Learning objectives are flexible and adjustable in relation to students’ learning outcomes.
  • Knowing the work environment and routine in nursing practice.
  • Knowing the routine and common nursing skills of units.
  • Able to apply physical assessment techniques through the process of nursing care.
  • Apply the nursing process to identify patients’ comprehensive care needs.
  • Integrate best current evidence with clinical expertise and patient/family preferences and values for delivery of optimal health care.
  • Evaluate the effects of nursing activity and alter the nursing activity as needed.
  • Function effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of clinical nursing.
  • Evaluation: A final evaluation meeting will be held one day prior to the end of observership program. The international nursing students, preceptor and head of nurse will participate in the meeting. Evaluation of an observership performance is based on:
  • Head of nurse’s feedback and written evaluation
  • Preceptor’s feedback and written evaluation
  • Students’ feedback and written evaluation
  • Patient feedback
