External Cooperation

With  National Defense Medical Center since 1959

In September 1959, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. approved the then VGH as one of the teaching hospitals of National Defense Medical Center (NDMC). Ministry of National Defense enacted regulations to steer mutual academic support between NDMC and VGH as well as the transfer of military doctors to VGH. NDMC not only entrusted the foundation of VGH to its Dean, also the first Superintendent of VGH, General Loo, Chih-the, but recruited all specialists in NDMC to serve as the major task force for establishment of VGH. NDMC at the same time appointed them as adjunct department chiefs or seed instructors in VGH, and relocated resources of medical education and research to VGH to form a solid union between both sides, as a beginning to pave the way for decades of enduring partnerships from then on.

With National Yang-Ming University since 1975

In July 1975, National Yang-Ming College of Medicine was officially founded, and signed in December 1977 a Mutual Collaboration Agreement with VGH under the approval of Ministry of Education to stipulate VGH as its teaching hospital, which remained unchanged even when it was upgraded as National Yang-Ming University (NYMU) in 1994. Taipei VGH has become its primary teaching hospital to place students for internship training. Not a few of our physicians are full-time faculties in the university actively committed to medical education. Some of them have initiated the first PBL program in the medical schools of Taiwan.

With local teaching hospitals and institutions since 1980s

During 1980s, Taipei VGH had established cooperative ties with medical institutes such as National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences, Chi Mei Medical Center (former Tainan Municipal Feng Chia Hospital), Chang-Hua Hospital, National Yang-Ming University Hospital (formerly I-Lan Municipal Hospital) and Hua-Lien Hospital. In compliance with the national policy that urged medical centers via hospital accreditation to enhance the quality of community-based healthcare, Taipei VGH continued to strengthen the ties with more and more institutes tailored to their diverse needs.  Until 2016, Taipei VGH has established such cooperative relationship with more than 70 local hospitals to provide their staff the opportunities for on-the-job training, residents joint training, academic exchange, cooperative research, clinical  support and referrals, etc…

With National Taiwan University Hospital since 1996

The signing of cooperative agreement between Taipei VGH and National Taiwan University Hospital in 1997 made a sensation-of-the-year of the medical community of Taiwan. The two leading medical centers in Taiwan, despite in keen competition with each other, undertook a united effort to cooperate in medical education and research. Starting from 2007, the two hospitals have jointly conducted a variety of research projects and continued to publish their outcomes to date.
