General Requirements


Taipei Veterans General Hospital offers trainings and electives for overseas applicants including residents, fellows, other specialists, medical students and other students. Please read the following information before applying for any educative program:

General requirements:

  • Applicants must be healthy and keep good performance records at their own institution or school.
  • Fluency in Mandarin or Taiwanese, especially speaking and comprehension, is preferred, although not essential.


Documents required: (English edition is required if the originals are in other forms of language)

Students

  1. the digital passport-size photo;
  2. the copy of your passport;
  3. the copy of your student ID (both sides with valid date) or your enrollment certificate from your medical school with dates and stamp (applicants must be enrolled in a medical school and should be in clinical years);
  4. the letter of recommendation from your Dean or faculty of your school;
  5. the curriculum vitae;
  6. the official academic transcript(s);
  7. the proof of your personal travel and health insurance approximately above NT$1,000,000 that will cover the DATES you travel and study in Taiwan;
  8. the normal chest X-ray report signed or stamped by a physician. It must be done in 90 days prior to the start or reporting date of your elective revealing no suspicion of Tuberculosis (TB). (In case that you may provide your normal chest X-ray report after your application is accepted, but need to be received at least 15 days before your first elective day.)
  9. the COVID-19 Vaccination Records with three doses of inoculation, or 14 days after the second dose but less than 3 months (we accept: AstraZeneca(AZ), Moderna, Pfizer/BioNTech(BNT), Janssen, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Medigen and vaccines granted Emergency Use Listing (EUL) by WHO).


Application must be submitted at least 2 months prior to the desired training date with all required documents, except the X-ray report that can be handed at least 15 days before reporting to the Department of Medical Education.

Residents, fellows or other specialists

  1. the digital passport-size photo;
  2. the copy of your passport;
  3. the copy of related professional licensure;
  4. the copy of your diploma and/or certificates;
  5. the letter of recommendation of the proof of clinical work experience signed within 6 months before you submit your application and proves you have at least 1-year relevant professional experience and still practicing as a professional up until this day. Your residency can be included.
    Or the proof of which demonstrates how many years of the experience that you have possessed (at least 1-year relevant professional experience and still practicing as a professional up until this day) issued by your hospital. (This document must be less than 6 months old);
  6. the curriculum vitae;
  7. the study plan, including your study objective, period, subjects, the clinical study plan, and the names of Taipei VGH doctors that you would like to visit or follow;
  8. the copy of your health check report (This document must be less than 3 months old);
  • If your training duration is less than 3 months, including your normal chest X-ray report done within 90 days prior to the start of your training revealing no suspicion of Tuberculosis (TB);
  • If your training duration is longer than 3 months, your chest X-ray for Tuberculosis, serological tests for Syphilis and proof of Positive Measles and Rubella Antibody are required as well and the report must be less than 3 months old when you submit your application;
  • Please also be noted that if the result demonstrates that you do not have enough Measles IgG or Rubella IgG antibodies, you will need to receive MMR vaccine and provide proof document to us;  
  1. the proof of your personal travel and health insurance approximately above NT$1,000,000 that will cover the DATES you travel and study in Taiwan.

Available Courses:

  • Specialties or sub-specialties, either in clinical or laboratory setting, as well as other essential professional entities currently working in this hospital, are open to application for educative courses, subject to our final approval. If medicine or surgery is selected, please specify the subdivision.

  • For students the whole length of the courses should not exceed 2 months (application for two weeks only will NOT be provided).Two weeks are the minimal length of period required for each rotating course, and please browse the variety of tentative elective programs on https://wd.vghtpe.gov.tw/sta/Fpage.action?muid=7971&fid=8149. These programs, although designed in one-month form, are subject to applicants’ choice of length of time.
